News Update
- KENOSIS Kids Week, June 2011
The Kids Week in this June took place with the theme: "I can make a difference". This was based on different Biblical stories, where each story was unique in making a difference in someone's life. The children learned the importance of sharing the little they have with others, making a difference in a sick person's life, especially in this time when children have a lot of experience with sick people from their own families. They also learned how to seek help where they cannot help themselves. Making a difference in one's life was the main topic though. This event is always special for the kids since every time we have an increased number. This winter, we had 380 children who attended. This is already a big number which will increase in future and will be a challenge in the management part; which forces us to think of restructuring the event. Thanks to the Maqongqo volunteers, the German volunteers, the individual helpers like Minenhle Khumalo and others, that helped the members of the community to have a successful Kids Week.
- End of Year at the Kenosis Creche
The Kenosis Crèche Graduation is always a 'fun day' for everyone who participate, especially the kids and their parents. In 2010 we sent out 18 children who were ready for school, and this year, 2011, we have more than 20 children to whom we will be saying "good-bye". These young 'graduates' prepare themselves to entertain their parents and everyone who attend their special event. It is always good to hear the feedback and appreciations from the parents about the progress of their children at their new schools. We wish all the kids who have passed their Early Childhood Development Education in kenosis a successful future too!
- Christmas Party in Maqongqo- December 2010
It has become the tradition that the children who have participated in the support groups in the Outreach Project, also participate in their Christmas Party. It has always helped the children to realize that they are not alone in the bereaved experience they have to go through. In December 2010, 150 children attended their party and had an opportunity to befriend with each other as they are all from the different parts of Maqongqo, and they all have gone through the same programme. They also share about their experiences in the support groups and things they have learned together for their own life. This is also an opportunity for the children to celebrate their own victory over stress they had and they look forward to the real empowered life, where each child take up responsibility to own and to value her/his life.
- Christmas Party within Kenosis Community- December 2010
The Kenosis Community had a wonderful time together as a family on the 4th of December. The community had a privilege of getting together, which started with worship. We sang some Christmas songs, and children performed some drama and music around Christmas. This was a wonderful way of closing the year together since it is our tradition to start the year with a retreat and having time to review the past year and planning for the year ahead together.
- Diakonia Training Programme: July 2011
The training programme started at the beginning of the year, 2011, when seven (7) students from the different parts of South Africa, including Botswana, joined Kenosis in January. At the end of January, we had an official opening of this programme in kenosis. Besides the two lecturers in kenosis Sr Happiness and Rev Dlamini, we have another six (6) lecturers from the LTI (Lutheran Theological Institute), who are giving lecturers. We appreciate this help from LTI, since it would be different and difficult with the teaching without their voluntary help, even though they are engaged with LTI too. ELCSA has managed to register the students with TEE Collage so that they can receive an accredited certificate at the end of their studies. We wish this group God's blessing and all the best as they endeavour to this ministry, since they are the champions of this programme for the church. When we started in 2008 with the preparations of this programme, Rev Celiwe Dlamini was employed to be involved in the planning process. Her contract came to an end at the end of July 2011. She requested to extend it only till the end of the year 2011, and not more. This means that she will be leaving Kenosis in the next few months. We wish her and her family all the best; we will all miss her and Kulungile in Kenosis.
