Volunteering in Kenosis
Objectives
· To offer young women from abroad the opportunity to experience another country and culture.
· To 'widen the horizons' of people living in Kenosis.
· To offer young women the opportunity to develop new skills.
· To offer the opportunity for personal growth and independence.
· To be assisted in the daily activities in Kenosis.
Responsibilities
Kenosis offers 4 young women from abroad the opportunity to come and live and work in Kenosis for one year. They work together in pairs in two main areas of work:

Two of them help in the creche, while the other two help around the grounds and with transport, in the vegetable garden, chickens etc.

The responsibilities of the volunteers in the creche include: collecting children with the driver in the mornings and taking them home in the afternoons; keeping records of payments; cooking porridge for breakfast and washing the dishes; and playing with the children during 'free play time'. The work in the creche is a lot more structured than that of the volunteers who assist around the grounds who need to be more flexible in their working times.

All volunteers are assigned 4 (or more) children whom they assist with their homework in the afternoons. This is a very important responsibility, as many children are not keeping up in school, and in this way they can be assisted a little.
Also, the volunteers play with the children during free time, take them swimming, read stories and are generally there as people for them to interact.
Time period
The time period during which volunteers can join Kenosis is from August to August the following year. The minimun time period for volunteering is 6 months, however Kenosis gives preferance to women who want to stay for one year.
How to apply to volunteer in Kenosis
Kenosis works together with three Mission organisations in Germany, and it is these organisations that are responsible for the recruitment process. Also, these organisations prepare the volunteers for the year abroad, as well as assist in travel arrangements, insurances and other logistics.
The Mission organisations are:
Evangelisch Lutherisches Missionswerk, based in Hermannsburg.
Ev. Missionswerk Südwest Deutschland, based in Stutgart.
Missionswerk Bayers, based in Neundettelsau.
It is possible to get in touch with former volunteers via these three Missionworks.
